Single Dot Problems

Dot Situation : The problems on Dot Situation involve a cluster of three or more geometrical figures - usually triangle, square, rectangle or/and circle having one or more dots placed at any point inside the cluster. This cluster is followed by a set of  four alternative figures each composed of a cluster of same type of figures. Now, for each dot we have to observe the region in which it  is enclosed, i.e. to which of the geometrical figures this region is common. Then, we look for such a region in the four alternatives. Once we have found it, we repeat the procedure for other dots, if any. The alternative figure which contains all such regions is the answer.

Single Dot Problems: In these type of question we are given a cluster of three or more geometrical figures - usually triangle, square, rectangle or/and circle having a single dot placed at any point inside the cluster. This cluster is followed by a set of  four alternative figures each composed of a cluster of same type of figures. Now, for the dot the candidate has to observe the region in which it  is enclosed, i.e. to which of the geometrical figures this region is common.

In this figure the area which is common for rectangle, circle and triangle is having the dot.So we can say that the dot is inside the circle, triangle and rectangle

In this figure the area which is common for rectangle and triangle is having the dot.So we can say that dot is outside the circle.

Illustration : In the following question, figures in the four option A, B, C and D are given, select the one which satisfies the same conditions of placement of the dot as in the question figure.

A

B

C

D

Answer : A

Solution: On observing the question figure we find that dot (.) lies in between Square and Triangle but is outside Circle.

  • Figure in option B and D does not have any area which common to only square and triangle because the area which is common for square and triangle is common to circle also.
  • Figure in option C does not have any area which common to square and triangle because they are not overlapping.
  • Figure in option A satisfies the situation.
  • Hence the answer is A.
